The body holds what words cannot always reach — and skilled, compassionate touch can help it release.
Bodywork is a broad family of practices that work through the physical body to affect the whole person: the fascia, the nervous system, the held patterns of a life. Where talk therapy works through language, bodywork works through contact, pressure, and presence.
Some modalities are structural — addressing the physical tissue itself — while others are more regulatory, using gentle contact to help the nervous system settle. The most effective practitioners tend to hold both: a knowledge of anatomy alongside an attunement to the person on the table.
Common modalities include:
- Craniosacral Therapy — very light touch that supports the body's natural rhythms and settling.
- Myofascial Release — sustained pressure into the fascial system to release held tension.
- Somatic Bodywork — touch combined with awareness, inviting the client to feel as they release.
- Trauma-Sensitive Massage — bodywork adapted to stay within the nervous system's window of tolerance.
Good bodywork is never imposed. It is a conversation — one conducted in pressure and pause, between a practitioner's hands and a body that is allowed, at every moment, to lead.
